How To Test The Blower Motor (1996-2000 2.5L Chrysler Sebring)

TEST 2: Applying Power And Ground To The Blower Motor

In this test section, we're gonna' manually apply battery power and Ground to your Chrysler Sebring or Dodge Avenger's blower motor.

You'll need to use jumper wires for this test. I recommend that you use one that have crocodile-type terminals on the ends (and you can make these yourself).

The blower motor should run, and run without any loud bearing noise, when you apply these 12 Volts and Ground to it.

If the blower motor does not run or runs with a loud bearing noise, then you can conclude that it's defective and needs to be replaced with a new one.

NOTE: The connector has 2 wires. The blue wire (BLU) wire supplies power and the black with yellow stripe (BLK/YEL) wire supplies Ground (via the blower resistor and blower switch).

Let's get testing:

   Disconnect the blower motor from its electrical connector and remove it.

   Apply battery power to the blower motor's male spade terminal that connects to the BLU wire of the electrical connector.

   Apply battery Ground to the blower motor's male spade terminal that connects to the BLK/YEL wire of the electrical connector.

4. 4

   The blower motor should run.

Let's examine your test result:

CASE 1: The blower motor ran and ran WITHOUT any bearing noise. This test result confirms that the blower motor, on your Chrysler Sebring (Dodge Avenger) is not defective (especially if it's amperage draw is under 40 Amps).

CASE 2: The blower motor ran but ran WITH a lot of bearing noise. This confirms that, although the blower motor runs, it's defective due to worn out internal components (like bad bearings, worn brushes).

CASE 3: The blower motor did not run. This test result tells you that the blower motor is defective and needs to be replaced.
