TEST 4: APP Sensor 2 Resistance Tests (2 Of 2)
In this last test section, you'll test the resistance of the circuit between terminals B and C as you depress and then release the accelerator pedal.
If the APP sensor 2 circuit between terminals B and C is OK, you'll see the multimeter report:
- The resistance decreases as you depress the accelerator pedal.
- The resistance increases as you release the accelerator pedal.
If the circuit between terminals B and C is bad, you'll usually see the multimeter report a resistance value that stays stuck in one number as you depress/release the accelerator pedal.
OK, these are the test steps:
- 1
Disconnect the APP sensor assembly from its electrical connector.
- 2
Place your multimeter in Ohms mode.
- 3
Connect one multimeter test lead to terminal B.
- 4
Connect the other multimeter test lead to terminal C.
- 5
Note the Ohms reading on your multimeter.
At this point you'll see a resistance reading somewhere between 0.5K to 1K Ohms.
If you don't, don't worry. Continue to the next step. - 6
Slowly depress the pedal by hand till it bottoms out.
- 7
The resistance value should increase as you depress the pedal.
- 8
Slowly release the accelerator pedal.
- 9
The resistance value should decrease back to the original value you saw in step 5.
Let's examine your test results:
CASE 1: The resistance increased/decreased without any gaps between terminals B and C. This is the correct test result and lets you know APP sensor 2 is working correctly.
If APP sensor 1 and APP sensor 2 have passed all the tests in this tutorial, you can conclude the accelerator pedal assembly does not need to be replaced.
CASE 2: The resistance DID NOT increase between terminals B and C. This lets you know APP sensor 2 is bad.
Replace the accelerator pedal assembly.
CASE 3: The resistance DID NOT decrease between terminals B and C. This lets you know APP sensor 2 is bad.
Replace the accelerator pedal assembly.
CASE 4: The resistance DID NOT increase/decrease between terminals B and C. This lets you know APP sensor 2 is bad.
Replace the accelerator pedal assembly.
