TEST 4: Continuity Tests Of The Power Window Switch
Testing the continuity of the right side power window switch is done with a multimeter in Ohms mode.
What we're looking for is a non-OL reading from your multimeter.
NOTE: You may need a helper to press the switch to activate window DOWN or UP mode while you're probing the switch's terminals with your multimeter test leads.
These are the test steps:
- 1
Place your multimeter in Ohms mode.
- 2
Remove the right side power window switch from its place on the door panel.
- 3
Holding the window switch in its UP position.
Your multimeter should register continuity between terminals F and G.
Your multimeter should register continuity between terminals K and L. - 4
Holding the window switch in its DOWN position.
Your multimeter should register continuity between terminals F and K.
Your multimeter should register continuity between terminals J and G.
Let's examine your continuity test result:
CASE 1: Continuity exists in the indicated terminals in DOWN and UP mode. This is the correct and expected test result and tells you that the window switch is OK.
CASE 2: Continuity DOES NOT exist in the indicated terminals in DOWN and UP mode. This test result lets you know that the right window switch is defective.
NOTE: The right side power window circuit diagram applies only to the 2 door 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999 Chevy Pick Up (1500, 2500, and 3500).
